1. The RICE Method
The RICE method stands for rest, ice, compression, and elevation. Avoid overworking the joint that is experiencing pain so it can have time to heal. Apply ice and wrap the injured area to reduce swelling and inflammation. And simply raising the sore joint above your heart can also reduce pain and swelling.
2. Mobility Exercises
Improving the range of motion and strengthening the muscles and ligaments around the joints can help relieve pain and reduce the risk of future injury. Targeted stretches targeting the painful areas will help ensure that future workouts don’t re-aggravate the injury.
3. Acupuncture and Massage
Acupuncture is sometimes performed to relieve trigger points in soft tissues that are contributing to joint pain in other parts of the body. If you’re nervous around needles, massage can also relieve pain by releasing these soft tissue trigger points.
If you need help addressing joint paint, Dr. Chimezie Amanambu and the staff at Pax Medical Associates can help. Their team can help you work through potential remedies so that you can find joint pain relief without the need for surgery, while also encouraging you to live a healthy lifestyle to improve your overall well-being.
Dr. Amanambu graduated from medical school in 1989 from the University of Nigeria. He did his postgraduate medical training in internal medicine at The Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. He is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
