EAT A BALANCED DIET
Consuming a balanced diet of lean meats, whole grains, fruits and vegetables, while limiting sugar, sodium, and refined carbohydrates, can help maintain a healthy body and reduce your risk of these diabetic conditions.
LIMIT ALCOHOL
Reducing your intake of alcohol to 2 drinks a day if you’re a male, and 1 drink a day if you’re a female is another way to prevent these conditions.
QUIT SMOKING
Smoking increases your risk of these diabetic conditions, so quitting entirely promotes a healthier life and a reduction of risks for diabetes 2, gestational diabetes, and prediabetes.
EXERCISE
Maintaining an active lifestyle with 30 minute exercise sessions at least 5 days a week is a helpful factor in reducing these diabetic risks.
REDUCE STRESS
Taking part in yoga, breathing techniques, and meditation are stress reducing examples that can contribute to lowering your risks for these conditions.
LOSE WEIGHT IF NEEDED
If you’re overweight, and not pregnant, you can focus on getting to a healthy weight, with your doctor’s advice, to promote healthy living and avoid Type 2 and Prediabetes.
GET ADEQUATE REST
The proper amount of sleep is an important factor in decreasing your risk of these diabetic conditions.
TAKE YOUR MEDICATION
Taking your medication as prescribed is essential to staying well and reducing your risks. Your medications for other conditions such as high blood pressure and heart disease may help contribute to lowering your risk of diabetic issues as well.
